Abstract
The literature on chemical diffusion and interdiffusion contains many badly defined and/or wrongly used concepts. The reason they occur so frequently is that diffusion is based on thermodynamics where one can all too easily apply valid but very general formulae in a wrong manner. We would like here to clarify some of these concepts.
