Abstract

One of the most controversial aspects of factory automation concerns the economic aspects of advanced manufacturing technologies. My experience has convinced me that this financial issue is causing some real problems for executives. These new technologies have a huge potential to increase productivity, but that potential is being roadblocked in many cases by the misuse of financial analysis tools. The problem is that we are not sure how to calculate the returns on the investments in flexible automation.
