Grammars and Parsing Strategies
There is no doubt that the development of the generative transformational grammar and the transformational theory in linguistics have had the widest and the most profound impact on all aspects of studies on human language processing in the last several decades. Many of the divergent and competing theories extant today started as offshoots or variants of the TG theory although it is sometimes hard to see the connection now. It is for these reasons that we have devoted a chapter in the first part of this study to the transformational theory. In this chapter we will discuss various other grammatical studies, parsing strategies, and theoretical proposals that have relevance for the plan and goals of this study.
