Hypertriglyceridemia: Lipoprotein Receptors and Atherosclerosis

  • Chapter
Book cover Drugs Affecting Lipid Metabolism VIII

Abstract

Some forms of atherosclerosis appear to be related to abnormalities in the metabolism of lipoproteins containing apoB and/or apoE. The uptake of these lipoproteins by specific lipoprotein receptors may be involved in atherogenesis. In Houston, we have been particularly interested in the abnormal receptor-mediated cellular uptake of very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) from subjects with hypertriglyceridemia that appears to account for certain VLDL catabolic abnormalties and may be involved in atherogenesis in these subjects.
