Abstract

The rapid growth of industry in both developed and developing countries has brought about a pressure on natural resources which in many cases is far from rational. At present, per capita extraction of different kinds of raw materials averages 20 metric tons, to meet the annual industrial demand of the national economy. The world extraction of minerals doubles every 15 years, while the extraction of minerals in the USSR doubles every 10 years. At the same time, the finished products comprise at most 5–10 % of the raw materials which have been used in their production. The rest in the form of waste returns to the environment. Therefore, more and more pollution is created; besides, inadequate exploitation of natural resources causes the sharp depletion of these resources.
