The Use of Plastic Outfalls as a Low-Cost Waste Disposal Alternative

  • Chapter
Appropriate Waste Management for Developing Countries

Abstract

Because of the many problems facing developing countries, funds are not available for sophisticated or even what might be termed desirable solutions. The current world-wide recession/ depression has aggravated these difficulties. In addition, the burden of heavy increases in energy costs has emphasized the need for solutions that do not require a large energy input. Thus we must, in a sense, go back to nature and develop systems which fully utilize the natural assimilating capacity of the total environment, including the open ocean waters.
