Abstract

The use of sewage-derived methane as a fuel for road vehicles is not a new concept and one example of a successful period of such use occurred between 1942 and 1968 in a plant at Mogden sewage treatment works, London. With the more plentiful supplies of petroleum in the I960’s and the increasing use of diesel-engined vehicles (in which methane could not at that time be used), this particular application was discontinued.
