Abstract
The vast majority of papers published in the literature related to the activated sludge process deal mainly with low initial concentration synthetic wastes. Even those papers specifically related to “high concentration wastes” do not utilize substrates with initial concentrations, usually expressed in terms of COD, above 5000 mg/L (Rao and Grady, 1966).
