Abstract

This paper reviews the role of the lipoproteins as risk factors, the metabolic relationship between them and how this contributes to the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. The conclusion to be drawn is that lipoproteins should not only be considered individually as risk factors but also as part of a dynamic system whereby metabolic products of lipoproteins may be atherogenic.
