Abstract
Triglycerides and cholesterol concentrations in total plasma and lipoprotein fractions, obtained by preparative ultracentrifugation, were determined in 104 middle aged men subjected to coronary angiography for suspected myocardial ischaemia. Plasma apoprotein concentrations were measured by immunoelectrophoresis. The degree, number and length of stenoses in major coronary arteries were scored for each angiogram.
Patients in the bottom and top quintiles of the angiogram score, were compared. Significant differences were found in LDL, in total HDL and in HDL2cholesterol concentration. The latter was considerably higher in the bottom quintile subjects (p< 0.005). No differences were found in the cholesterol content of HDL3and lipoproteins of density < 1.019, in plasma triglyceride and apoproteins A-I, A-II or E. HDL2/LDL cholesterol concentration ratio was found to be the best discriminator between the two groups of subjects.
