Abstract
In the last few years, the interest in the properties of small metal clusters has grown rapidly because of their possible application in the field of catalysis. The spectroscopy of such particles isolated in noble gas matrices[1] offers a considerable reduction in the complexity of their molecular spectra and gives valuable information on the gas phase properties. In addition particles which are produced only a low rates can easily be collected for spectroscopic measurements. The matrix isolation (MI) technique is therefore especially suitable for the spectroscopy of small clusters.
