Abstract

Selecting a title for a book is a deceptively difficult task. First and foremost, the title should reflect the content and purpose of the volume. It must also be brief and distinct from other books on the same or similar topics. This poses a special challenge with a book on such a heavily published topic as behavior therapy. These restrictions place a premium on each and every word in the title. There really is no room for any extra words or words that are subject to misinterpretation. This brief discourse underscores our very careful and pointed use of the word clinical to modify behavior therapy in the title of this book. At first glance, the word might seem redundant. After all, behavior therapy is an applied discipline. Surely, there is no such thing as nonclinical behavior therapy. Yet, in some respects there are two behavior therapies.
