Abstract

This chapter reviews the data from the project through the filter of a conventional view of culture: that is, the values and attitudes and habits passed from one generation to another via the socialization process. The data in question are the proxemic indexes that reflected variations in the size and gender composition of adult-child groups across the 18 culture sample. These indexes include:

  1. 1.

The preferential association of men toward boys (rather than girls)

  2. 2.

The proportion of children (associating with adults) who were with groups of men and women

  3. 3.

The tendency of man-child dyads to associate with other men rather than with women

  4. 4.

The tendency of woman-child dyads to associate with other women rather than with men

  5. 5.

The preferential association of women toward girls (rather than with boys)
