Abstract
As the conveners and participants of the NATO Symposium on Aging and Technological Advances are all well aware, technological advances are a two-edged sword for whoever wields it. From the perspective of older people themselves, many specific technological advances occasion both benefits and liabilities depending upon the criterion. As others have noted, for example, the mechanization of the workplace has enabled us to produce more goods and services with decreasing levels of physical fitness.
