Abstract
A cone-shaped HPLC pre-column has been developed to cope with the problems that arise during the work-up of large volumes of biological sample. The device offers large loading capacity at the front of the pre-column. It is constructed of stainless steel and PCTFE. Its pressure resistance (up to 40 MPa) allows full integration into HPLC systems. It is observed that there is scarcely any decrease in performance on going from a small to a large sample volume using the cone-shaped pre-column. Its possibilities in biomedical research are discussed, with metabolic examples.
