Abstract
DDT is probably the most notorious of all compounds in the group of insecticides of the chlorinated hydrocarbon type. Due to its low price, the result of a simple synthetic route using cheap starting materials, DDT has been used on a global scale in enormous quantities since World War II. It has been estimated that more than 2 billion kilos has been used since 1940.
