Remarks on the surgical treatment of bilateral transcallosal gliomas

Abstract

The authors present 26 cases of bilateral transcallosal gliomas treated in the last fifteen years. Four different therapeutic approaches were performed (steroids and diuretics, extensive surgery, extensive surgery plus radiotherapy, palliative surgery plus radiotherapy). The median survival time ranged between 60 and 480 days. Radiotherapy yielded the best results when associated to palliative surgery probably as a consequence of different factors such as age and initial performance status of the patients, histology, location and extension of the tumours.
