Competency Assessment in Clinical Populations: An Introduction to the Cognitive Competency Test

  • Chapter
Clinical Neuropsychology of Intervention

Abstract

There is an increasing demand within the medical and legal fields for an objective and thorough method of evaluating competency. However, both the concept and method of assessment of such a complex entity as mental competency are frequently debated. Unlike the issue of one’s physical capabilities, which can be accurately and objectively evaluated and even compensated for by means of external assistance if need be, the answers to inquiries regarding one’s mental competency are far less accessible at present.
