Patient to Patient
Research in diabetes, research in transplantation, research in uremia, research in any medical area is truly important when its results reach the patient. The quality of life resulting from this research is what it’s all about. Treatment for the diabetic and for the diabetic whose kidneys and eyes have failed has changed drastically since I became diabetic 20 years ago. With the advent of techniques that permit tight control of blood glucose levels and medications for controlling blood pressure, there is hope that the outlook for diabetics who maintain near-normal values for these two factors will have a brighter future than might have been possible previously. It is expected that some of the complications due to this illness can be avoided and some made better. It is certainly true that a feeling of well-being is accomplished by the regulation of these elements.
