Graphic Related Standards

Abstract

This paper will provide an overview of the many standards under development which relate to computer graphics. This paper will not restrict itself to the work of ANSI Technical Committee X3H3 (graphic languages), although the committee’s activities will be reported. Most of the countries in Europe have active graphic standards projects at both the national and international levels. The relationships between the various European activities is similar to that described below. The pervasive nature of computer graphics and its growing importance have caused many other standards committees to also consider graphics. The opinions expressed in this paper are those of the author, recently appointed vice chairman of ANSI X3H3. They do not necessarily reflect the views and policies of the standards committees referenced, nor of IBM.
