Abstract
The toxicity of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) isolated from different organisms varies greatly, as does the toxicity of different salt forms of a single LPS isolate (4). Thus, it seems probable that the “endotoxic effects” of LPS are due to the presence of particular chemical groups, and to the accessibility of these groups. The accessibility may, in turn, depend on the aggregate structure.
