Ultrastructure and Function of Cyst Nematodes

Cyst Nematodes

Part of the book series: Nato ASI Series ((NSSA,volume 121))

Abstract

Investigations of the structure of the cyst nematodes and other Tylenchid species have been stimulated by the detailed electron microscopy (TEM) observations of the cuticle of Globodera (Heterodera) rostochiensis (Woll.) Behr. by Günther and Kämpfe (1966) and Shepherd et al. (1972). Ultrastructure of the root knot species Meloidogyne javanica (Treub) Chitw. (Bird and Rogers, 1965a, b; Bird, 1968) was described in a previous symposium (Lamberti and Taylor, 1979). The extensive investigation by De Grisse (1977) of the ultrastructure of 22 genera of the Tylenchids showed the common structural base of these genera and from which future studies can be extended.
