Abstract

This review paper describes the available sources of stored astronomical data: archives, catalogues and bibliography. After a short review of the present status of these data, reliability requirements are discussed, including quality estimators. The organisation of the different sources in data bases are summarized. Problems and limitations in accessing and maintaining these data are discussed from a user’s point of view; long and short term solutions are proposed to facilitate the access and maintenance of stored astronomical data.
