Abstract

There is a tendency to circularity in the events of regulation of gene expression which has to be accomodated within the linear organisation of a conference and its published proceedings. The signals between cells can be seen either as a beginning of a sequence of events in differentiation triggering and regulating gene expression, or they can be seen as the end product of one stage of the continuing process of tissue differentiation, in which a specific tissue or group of cells synthesises a signal molecule, which is taken up by other cells or tissues.
