Reflectivity Measurements on Shock-Unloading Solids

  • Chapter
Shock Waves in Condensed Matter

Abstract

We report on the first quantitative measurement of the reflectivity of a shock unloading solid. The reflectivity was observed to decrease much faster than that predicted by an one-dimensional model. The results suggest that the reflectivity measurement may provide a sensitive means for determining the electrical conductivity (or the electron-ion collision frequency) of a dense plasma.
