Abstract
The plane-wave generator (PWG) composed of liquid explosives has been developed by Fujiwara et al. (1978) since early 1970s. Nitromethane (NM) and hydrazine hydrate solution of hydrazine nitrate (HHS) are used as shown in Fig. 1. NM encased in a right circular cone of polystyrene is commercial grade and is not purified. The measured time difference of detonation arrival at the bottom of PWG in use at NCLI was approximately 10 nanoseconds for diameters of both 60 mm (PL-060) and 100 mm (PL-100). A typical streak camera record of argon flash gap on the bottom of PL-060 is shown in Fig. 1.
