Abstract

The body of oceanic water is bounded by sediments and rocks at the bottom and by ice at the surface. Sediments, rocks and sea ices are porous and their pores are filled with sea water or mixtures of air and sea water. It is well known that marine sediments and rocks are anisotropic both elastically (Anderson, 1961; Saada, 1978) as well as hydro-dynamically (Davis, 1969). Elastic and hydrodynamic structures of sea ice are also very anisotropic (Anderson, 1961). Furthermore, marine sediments, rocks and sea ices have layered structures. Therefore, ocean bottoms and ocean ice sheets may be considered as layered anisotropic poro-elastic media.
