Abstract

Following large ocean oil spills the clean-up coordinators urgently require certain basic information about the surface area of the slick, and if possible the areas of the thin and thick films, and an estimate of the amount of oil in the slick particularly in the thick area so as to be able to map the slick and its characteristics.
