Can Thermodynamics Be Made More Simple?
A method of handling the elementary mathematics of classical thermodynamics using some simple ideas drawn from vector calculus is developed. It is contended that, with no appreciable increase in mathematical difficulty, this method gives the student a greatly improved total view of the thermodynamics of any system he is studying, and by clarifying the mathematical structure frees his attention for the more important physical questions.
