Abstract
Although initially discovered and investigated by ONNES (e.g., [Onn11]) in the period between 1911 and 1913 as a zero-resistivity phenomenon (and ultimately exploited as such), it was soon recognized that the essential physics of superconductivity was couched in terms of electromagnetism and, in particular, in terms of the responses of superconductors to applied magnetic fields.
