Abstract

The saluretic agent muzolimine (MZ) induces “in vivo” changes in urinary pattern similar to those observed with loop diuretics, as furosemide (FUR), bumetanide (BUM) or ethacrinic acid (ETHA) (1). These drugs inhibit NaK2Cl cotransport (COT) in both the luminal side: of the thick ascending limb of Henle’s loop (TAL) and in erythrocytes (RBC) (2). Thus, RBC may be an useful model to study the cellular effects of MZ (2). In this paper we studied RBC cation transport pathways in the presence of MZ.
