Abstract

Minoxidil is a potent arteriolar dilator that increases cardiac output in patients with congestive heart failure (when the patient suffers mainly from low cardiac output) and systemic hypertension. Its mechanism of action is not known. It is effective in the presence of tolerance to conventional vasodilators. Serious adverse effects significantly limit its use.
