Endocrine Prevention of Breast Cancer by Tamoxifen

  • Chapter
Fundamental Problems in Breast Cancer

Part of the book series: Developments in Oncology ((DION,volume 51))

Abstract

The hypothesis that estrogen is an important promoter of carcinogenically induced mammary neoplasia opens up some attractive possibilities for prevention of some, most, or all clinical breast cancers. This chapter will explore the evidence in support of such a hypothesis and examine the logistic possibilities of undertaking a clinical trial to test for endocrine prevention of breast cancer.
