Intraductal Breast Carcinoma—What Constitutes Adequate Treatment?

  • Chapter
Fundamental Problems in Breast Cancer

Abstract

When the American College of Surgeons reported the results of a national survey on breast cancer [26], they found that duct carcinoma in situ (intraductal carcinoma or DCIS) comprised only 2 percent of breast cancer diagnosed prior to 1973. At The Breast Center, we are now experiencing a 20 percent incidence of DCIS among our cases of breast carcinoma.
