Abstract

The first seven years of mass mammographic screening for breast cancer in Kopparberg County, Sweden—which is a part of the Swedish two-county trial [1]—have provided us with experiences of the impact of screening on surgical treatment policies. In our analyses we have used a computerized register, which records all instances of in-patient health care, held by the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare [2] and data from the screening program regarding the influence of different modes of detection on prognosis [3].
