Abstract
The dietitian’s role is a multifaceted one, combining knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, psychology, and food sources of nutrients with interpersonal communication skills for working with people who have a wide spectrum of physical states, ages, social situations, intellectual levels, and personality types. Working with the child on CAPD/CCPD requires specialized knowledge of kidney function, biochemical and functional effects of dialysis on appetite, complications affecting nutritional status, psychological and developmental milestones of children, and family influences on the child.
