Abstract

Chronic bleomycin-induced pulmonary toxicity results from direct cellular injury followed by aberrant repair and fibrosis. In the wake of the lung injury events induced by bleomycin, alveolar and interstitial macrophages of the lung release immunoregulatory and anabolic cytokines (1). These peptide growth factors (GFs) play an important role in the induction of cellular proliferation and subsequent remodelling of the lung.
