Abstract
Although many investigators shy away from doing their own photography, there are many advantages for a student or investigator learning basic photographic methods in the laboratory. An excellent series of books by Ansel Adams (1980, 1981, 1983) are now available that give detailed descriptions of all aspects of basic photography. Among the most important reasons for learning photography for the laboratory are (1) cost effectiveness and efficiency, (2) immediate and complete data storage, and (3) accurate records of what is scientifically important.
