Abstract

Monitoring simultaneously transcutaneous Po2 (tcPo2) and oxygen saturation by pulse oximetry (tcSo2), one sometimes has the impression that tcSo2 responds slightly faster to changes in oxygenation than tcPo2 does. In order to investigate this phenomenon more in detail, we analyzed simultaneous pulse oximetry and tcPo2 recordings from artificially ventilated neonates. In a second step, we carried out a pilot study with healthy adult volunteers breathing a gas mixture with reduced FiO2 for a short period of time.
