Abstract
Compliance is an important issue in the conduct of research. The quality and eventual value in establishing a drug’s efficacy and side effects depend upon the patient ingesting the medication and undertaking the scheduled evaluations. Bringing patients into the research process as participants in these goals is an excellent beginning. At the practical level, whether or not patients appear for visits, undertake necessary blood tests, or submit required diaries is an undeniable matter of record. Whether the medication dispensed is taken or used is not so easily established. This section considers ways of enhancing patients’ medication taking and visit compliance.
