Abstract
The habitual smokers (5 males and 5 females) smoked their preferred brands of cigarettes under three different conditions separated by 30 min intervals. These three smoking conditions were presented in a counterbalanced order across a total of 10 days. Each of the three conditions involved taking eight puffs in a normal fashion at a fixed interpuff interval which varied from 45–65 sec. The three experimental conditions were: 1) Whole cigarette -one cigarette Smoked progressively down the burning rod to within 5 mm of filter, 2) Full Length -one puff taken from each of eight full length cigarettes, and 3) Butt Length -one puff taken from each of eight butt length cigarettes prepared by clipping off all but 5 mm of burnable tobacco rod distal to filter.
