Abstract
The difficulties experienced by the mineral industry in general and mineral exploration in particular since the early 1980’s should induce exploration managers to consider new approaches to the planning and field implementation of ore search programs. In the previous volume, “Designing optimal strategies for mineral exploration”, published by Plenum in 1985, the authors suggested a new approach based upon the theory of optimization of sequential systems. The basic theory and the methodology were described with a particular emphasis on detection and target selection as well as the application to the ore search in North America.
