Abstract
The cocaine crisis facing the Western world bodes ill for all of us. Broken lives, increased mortality, burgeoning crime rates and the dethroning of cherished values confront the very heartbeat of society. The major concern among the public in general and professionals in particular is cocaine’s ability to disrupt basic responsibilities and priorities that provide structure and meaning to our lives. This stresses the need for a new understanding of physical and psychological addiction.
“If thou art privy to thy countr’s fate, which happily foreknowing may avoid, O speak.”
