Abstract
The molecular theory of adsorption, contact angles and wetting transitions has seen considerable advancement during the last several years. Presented here is a status report on our current understanding of adsorption and wetting phenomena. The exposition makes extensive use of van der Waals theory of inhomogeneous fluids which, though simple, captures qualitatively most of the patterns observed experimentally or predicted by more rigorous theories.
