The Future of the Hypoxic Child

  • Chapter
Book cover Perinatal Asphyxia

Abstract

For the newborn infant who starts life under significant hypoxic asphyxial stress, survival in the acute stage will depend on the nature of the insult and the type of care. For the newborn with minor asphyxial compromise, life prognosis may not be so threatening, but the child’s future and his potentials as well as limitations will only become apparent as the child grows and develops.
