Abstract

One of the most frequently cited facts regarding the epidemiology of prostatic cancer is that the incidence and mortality rates for Oriental males are far lower than those of corresponding Western populations (for review see 1,2). Specifically, data derived from world-wide cancer registries indicate that the prostate cancer incidence rates (per 100,000) for males residing in the United States vary from 10 to 30 times those of Osaka, Japan or 50 to 125 times those of Shanghai, China (3).
