Abstract

The meeting began with an informal meeting and a very candid appraisal of the lack of a dominant leadership in urologic pathology and of the individualization of prostate histopathology in particular. Subsequent formal discussion centered around the striking individualization of diagnostic concepts and criteria for prostate cancer. There was a discussion of the idea suggested by Dr. Miller that the subcommittee might consider developing a glossary or illustrated dictionary of prostate histopathology with multiple grading systems. This could be available as an aid for diagnostic terminology. After a lengthy analysis of potential and realistic goals, it became evident that the best strategy would be to try to reach the largest audience of workers in the field. The best tactic in this regard was thought to be an influence of the urology/pathology literature perhaps through editorial policy.
