Abstract
Because in most clinical trials of neurological drugs the goal is to demonstrate efficacy as quickly as possible while exposing the fewest possible patients to an ineffective drug, it is often necessary to perform a clinical trial at more than one site. A coordinating center plays a crucial role in such trials. The Epilepsy Branch of the National Institutes of Health has had considerable experience as a coordinator for clinical trials of antiepileptic drugs, and this chapter will be based on that experience.
