Abstract
At this juncture in the evolution of network management, it is appropriate to reflect on the future of this evolving discipline. This collection of papers based on the fall 1989 workshop is focused on the cutting edge of accomplishments in the network management area, and presents a clear indication of the significant progress that has been achieved in addressing the customers’ needs for better management and control over their network resources. Less and less do we hear the claim that if it doesn’t work, it is someone else’s fault. Now, with the advent of integrated network management, we look forward to determining the source of the error rapidly and to efficiently manage restoration of the communications and processing channels at fault.
The Keynote address given at the Network Management and Control Workshop, September 19–21,1989.
