Pacing and Outcomes: Economic Implications

  • Chapter
Managing Technology in Healthcare

Part of the book series: Management of Medical Technology ((MOMT,volume 1))

Abstract

Management of technology is crucial in today’s healthcare environment. Proliferation of available technology has occurred simultaneously with changes in adminsitrative systems, clinical environments, patients’ demands, and the health insurance industry. These changes all suggest an increasingly careful examination of both the outcomes and costs of technological interventions. Comparisons are particularly important when alternative technologies may be used for treatment of the same condition.
